Biography

Dr. Gabriela Campos-Baniak was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Her family and her immigrated to Saskatoon when she was 3 years old. She completed her undergraduate degree, medical school and residency at the University of Saskatchewan. She went on to complete a fellowship in Glaucoma through Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has combined academic and community practice in Saskatoon through City Centre Eye Surgeons. She is the only surgical Glaucoma Specialist in Saskatoon and one of two in the province. She is the director of the Glaucoma clinic at the Saskatoon City Hospital Eye Centre.

Dr Gabriela Campos-Baniak and partner Leah Frei

Leah Frei is the creator of Saskiz. Leah has been teaching Kizomba and Urban Kiz since 2019 in Saskatoon, as well as being featured at workshops and festivals in other cities.  She is the heartbeat of the local Kizomba community; running classes, dance socials and large weekend events that bring people from all across Western Canada together.  Her focus on teaching excellence, inclusivity, and community has put Saskatoon on the Kizomba dancing map! Leah is deeply inspired to continue to learn and grow as a dancer and as a teacher, frequently travelling throughout Canada, the USA and Europe to train with the world’s best instructors. This will be her first time performing with Swinging with the Stars, and she is very excited to showcase a fast-paced and dynamic Semba routine!
